Description:

Responsible for operating a forklift truck to move materials in the plant, load, and unload trucks. Pulls and loads orders for shipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:

  • Operate for trucks to supply all materials to can lines, presses, and slitters.
  • Operate fork truck to move finished units from manufacturing area to warehouse to load trucks as required.
  • Operate fork trucks to empty scrap and trash hoppers.
  • Operate fork trucks to load and unload trucks as required.
  • Daily maintenance of their assigned fork trucks.
  • Using a production order, pull and assemble orders for shipment. This requires reading the order, determining number of packages of each item needed, and assembling all of the items for shipment. Identifying each package, as required, with proper information. Loading the order as required avoiding damage in loading, shipping, and unloading at the final destination. Accuracy of counts is extremely important, and accuracy of information to the shipping foreman when order is complete, advising of all items loaded and items not available for shipment.
  • Sweep, clean, pick-up trash, general house cleaning.
  • Will follow Company personnel and product safety requirements including standards such as those from SQF and internal GMPs.
  • Must follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with State and Federal laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Pass the Fork Truck Training certification course. Achievement of high school level math.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read in English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid State issued driver’s license, which meets Company requirements of the Fleet Management Policy and insurance requirements; and be fork truck certified.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to operate the fork truck in a safe and expeditious manner so that there are no delays in the manufacturing or in the shipping operations. Employee must be able to safely and efficiently operate the lift at its maximum lift height (approximately 180”).
