We are currently seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Annapolis, MD for one of our esteemed clients to provide essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will assist with daily activities, ensure a safe living environment, promote personal development, and implement individualized support and behavioral plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a supportive environment that respects the rights of the individuals served, ensuring their safety and freedom from abuse or neglect.
  • Foster positive communication with the individuals under support, their families, community stakeholders, and team members.
  • Provide critical assistance during behavioral and medical crises.
  • Uphold the principles of confidentiality for individuals receiving services.
  • Complete all mandatory state-regulated trainings, including MTTP, CPR/First Aid, MANDT, and State DDA, within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and nurturing living environment for the individuals served, assisting with their personal needs as required.
  • Encourage the development of daily living skills, such as housekeeping tasks and meal preparation, in line with each individual’s personalized plan.
  • Administer medications as instructed, monitoring individuals for any health or behavioral changes.
  • Accurately complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Oversee individuals’ healthcare needs, schedule medical appointments, and maintain up-to-date documentation.
  • Promptly report significant changes, incidents, or potential safety hazards to the appropriate management.
  • Encourage and facilitate individuals’ participation in recreational, social, and community activities based on their interests and personalized plans.
  • Adhere strictly to work schedules, meet deadlines, and adjust to program needs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Preferably 1-2 years of experience in providing direct care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Caring demeanor and a genuine interest in supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Basic computer skills; ability to read and interpret documents, write reports, and complete forms.
  • Valid Non-CDL Class C Driver License and reliable personal transportation are a plus.
  • Physical ability to lift/move more than 50 pounds and assist in individual transfers.
  • Must complete all mandatory trainings under DDA and CMT guidelines.
  • Flexible scheduling to meet agency and program needs, including night shifts.

Note: Some roles may require DSPs to remain awake during overnight hours and perform regular checks on the safety of individuals.
